All About Me

Welcome to 2024!! Today I made a picture that tells you about me. We had to go on Canva and find or generate pictures that relate to me and put on my poster.

Do you have anything in common with me?

Kid Heros

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Have you tried to make an impact on our planet? Well these kids we have read about in reading this week have. The first person we read about was Bethany Hamilton. She lost one of her arms in an ocean in Hawaii whilst surfing. While she was waiting for a wave to come, a tiger shark swept by her and bit down on her arm. She was so brave and stayed calm as a pool of blood whirled around her. Luckily her friends were with her and carried her to shore.

Then we read a book called “Real kids, Real stories, Real change”. In this book were lots of different kids around the world changing lives. For our create task we had to choose three kid heroes and read about what they did to help the world. I chose Harshit Argawald, Akia Tsubota and Sophie Pascoe.

Super Structures

This week in reading, we have been learning about the world’s tallest structures over the years. The two structures we read about were called Burj khalifa and KVLY-TV mast. Our goal for this week is to: Make connections between two texts and Identify some text events and features, and discuss what it makes the reader think about.

Two facts I have learnt is that the KVLY-mast building was completely built in 1963, it was the tallest structure in the world and Burj Khalifa took over the height of KVLT-mast at 828m.

For my create we had to fill in a doc whith four facts about each building and what your structure would have. We also had to come up with our own design and make it digitally or on paper. I did my doc with Lopeta.

Did you know that these where some of the tallest buildings?

Water!

Hello, this week in reading we were learning about conserving earths natural resources. Some of earth’s natural resources include: Air, water trees, plants and animals. Our goal for this week was: Identify several ideas, discuss the author’s stance or purpose, and understand relationships in the text.

For our create we had to create a poster about one of the natural resources. I chose to do water as my natural resource. We had to answer these  questions: a definition of the resource you are talking about, where you find this resource in the world, the varieties of this resource, how this resource is being depleted by humans and what we can do to protect it better.

Down below I have created a poster about water –

Did you learn anything about water?

Champions of peace

Kia Ora, for the last 4 weeks of term 3, we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions on Peace’. First we learnt about different symbols for peace. These are some of the symbols we learnt about – Peace hand, white poppy, a dove and lastly the victory sign.

These symbols represent peace. For example the peace flag mostly has seven rainbow stripes with the word pace which is the Italian word for peace. It was in the account of the Great Flood when this became a peace sign and God set the rainbow to seal the alliance with man and nature, promising that there will never be another Flood.

I would like to show you my peace prayer book which has peace prayers from different religions.

I had fun learning about peace because I learnt about people who are alive and who have passed that showed peace like Mother Teresa. I also learnt about the ways people used the the symbols.

I will be a champion of peace by showing peace in my everyday actions.

How are you going to be a champion of peace?

Old To New

Kia Ora, this week in reading we got given a task board with 5 different types of tasks and have to chose 3 of them to create.

Our learning goal was: make connections between other texts and general knowledge to expand meaning and pose questions, using more sophisticated texts.

The options to chose from were: Fossils or food, History of the haka, Turning old to new, The promise and Roller coaster reading. I chose to share with you my Turning old to new.

Our steps to this create were:

  1. Read the text
  2. Find out more information about the effects of plastic landfill
  3. Use the information you found out to create a campaign/poster/slideshow to help others reduce the plastic we use in the world

Below you will find my slide show about plastic –

Do you have any questions about plastic?

Math

Hi, This week in math we have been learning about patterns.

Our goal for last week was – Use graphs, tables, and rules to describe linear relationships found in number and spatial patterns.

For our create we had to make a growing pattern and figure out a rule to know how to keep it growing. In our workshops we had to find the rule and relationships between the pattern the teachers gave us. For example the rule could be 6p+2 or 8p+1 and we had to figure it out what it mean’t.

do you know how to make a rule?

Reading – Antibiotics

Hello, welcome to my blog about my reading for this week. So this week I learnt about Antibiotics and how they work. In our workshop we read a book called resistance when antibiotics work. this book told us when we can and can’t use them. If we use them when we can’t, it won’t work when we really need them which cannot help in the long run. For this week our create what answering some question the teacher gave us about what will happen if we use them at the wrong time. look below to see my create for this week.

(my slide is last)

what else do you know about antibiotics and how they work?

I have created a poster on a peace of paper to reflect on my camp journey –

Have you ever been on a school camp?

Mid Winter Breakfast Maths

Hi, welcome back to my blog. For the last couple weeks in math we have been focusing on probability. Our math create for this week was to spin a wheel and see what breakfast food it landed on. The options are porridge, hot cakes hot chocolate and sausage sizzle. Once it has landed on a breakfast food you tally it on a chart. You spin it 46 times and tally all of them. When you are done you make it into a graph. I chose to do a pie chart for my graph. On our create we also had to include what we did and what we noticed.

Here is my create down below –

What mid winter breakfast would you choose?
